News: Terrorists Burn Harvested Rice, Abduct Five Residents In Zamfara Community

EASTERN PILOT | OCTOBER 15, 2026 |

Report By: Hadiza Musa

Terrorists known as Bandits in the Northern Nigeria have reportedly invaded Farin Ruwa community in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting five residents and setting harvested rice crops on fire amid growing insecurity affecting farmers in the area. According to conflict reporter Bakatsine, the attack has heightened fear among residents, with farmers reportedly facing demands for large sums of money before they can harvest their crops.

In a report on the incident, Bakatsine said the bandits abducted residents, killed some people and destroyed harvested rice by setting it ablaze. Among those reportedly killed was Saminu Adamu, who was allegedly murdered despite his family having paid ransom for his release. His harvested farm produce was also reportedly burnt. Five other residents, identified as Abdulrahman Shehu, Mansur Muhammad, Idi Muhammad, Abdullahi Sani and Sani Usman, were reportedly still being held by the bandits at the time of the report.

The attack has further raised concerns about the impact of insecurity on agricultural activities and food production in Zamfara State, where farmers in affected communities reportedly struggle to access their farms and harvest their crops safely. According to Bakatsine, fear of attacks has prevented many farmers from returning to their farms, leaving their livelihoods and food supplies at risk.

Residents have appealed to the Zamfara State and Federal Governments to intervene, secure the release of those abducted and strengthen security to protect lives, farmland and harvested produce. The reported incident underscores the challenges facing farming communities in parts of northwestern Nigeria, where attacks, abductions and ransom demands have disrupted agricultural activities and threatened rural livelihoods.

SaharaReporters tried to reach the Zamfara State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, by phone, but he had not responded to calls or a message seeking comment as of the time of filing this report.
