The Truth Must Prevail: IPOB/ESN Are Not Responsible for the Okigwe Attack – A Sinister Plot by Amnesty Nigeria, Imo State, and Nigerian Government Exposed!
EASTERN PILOT: May 9, 2025.
By BiafraFirstSon
We strongly condemn the baseless and malicious allegations being peddled by Amnesty International Nigeria, in collaboration with the Imo State Government under Hope Uzodinma, and the Nigerian Government, to falsely link the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) to the tragic events on Okigwe-Owerri Road on 8 May 2025. This is nothing but a calculated and evil plot to tarnish the image of IPOB, justify the continued unlawful detention of our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and suppress the legitimate struggle for Biafran self-determination.
Let us set the record straight: IPOB and ESN are not responsible for the alleged attack that reportedly killed 30 people and burned 20 commuter vehicles in Imo State. IPOB is a peaceful movement advocating for the rights of the Biafran people through non-violent means, while ESN was established to protect our communities from external threats like Fulani herdsmen, not to perpetrate violence against innocent citizens.
The claims by Amnesty Nigeria are not only unverified but also conveniently align with the narrative of the Nigerian Government, which has consistently sought to demonize IPOB to justify its oppressive tactics.
This is not the first time the Nigerian Government has collaborated with entities like Amnesty International Nigeria to spread falsehoods against IPOB. The timing of this so-called “report” is suspicious, coming at a time when the government is under pressure to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who has been unjustly detained despite court rulings affirming his innocence. By peddling these lies, Amnesty Nigeria, Hope Uzodinma, and the Nigerian Government aim to:
1 Create a false narrative that paints IPOB as a violent group, thereby justifying Kanu’s continued detention and the proscription of IPOB as a “terrorist” organization.
2 Divert attention from the real perpetrators of violence in the Southeast, including state-sponsored actors and criminal elements that the government has failed to address.
3 Undermine the growing international support for Biafran self-determination by discrediting IPOB’s legitimate struggle. We call on the public, both locally and internationally, to see through this sinister agenda. Amnesty International Nigeria, an organization that claims to uphold human rights, has lost its credibility by becoming a willing tool in the hands of oppressors. Instead of investigating the true causes of insecurity in Imo State, they have chosen to parrot the government’s propaganda without evidence.
Where is the proof of IPOB/ESN involvement? Why has there been no independent investigation into these claims? The silence on these questions speaks volumes.
We urge the international community, human rights organizations, and well-meaning individuals to demand transparency and justice. The Nigerian Government must stop using fabricated stories to target IPOB and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The real criminals responsible for the Okigwe attack must be brought to justice, and the government must be held accountable for its failure to protect citizens while scapegoating IPOB.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remains a prisoner of conscience, and IPOB will not be intimidated by these lies. Our struggle for freedom, justice, and self-determination continues, and no amount of propaganda can stop the will of the Biafran people.
We call on all Biafrans and supporters of justice to stand firm and reject this fake news being spread by Amnesty Nigeria and its collaborators.
