The Systematic Oppression of Biafrans by the Nigerian Government: JAMB’s Recent Actions as Evidence
EASTERN PILOT: May 15, 2025.

The Biafran people have long endured systemic marginalization and oppression at the hands of the Nigerian government, and the recent events surrounding the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) are a glaring example of this calculated injustice. This is a deliberate attempt to stifle the educational aspirations of Biafran children, particularly those in the South-East, and it poses a grave danger to the future of our people.
On May 14, 2025, reports emerged that 379,997 candidates in the five South-Eastern states and Lagos were affected by “glitches” in the 2025 Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination (UTME), as confirmed by Punch Newspapers. Pulse Nigeria and other sources further revealed that this mass failure was no accident it was a targeted act of sabotage, with Amuwo-Odofin, Ojo, and Ajeromi, heavily Igbo-populated areas in Lagos, being among the worst hit.
Spotlight Abby, an X user, had predicted this move last year, warning that JAMB, WAEC, and other examination bodies would “glitch” the system to undermine certain demographics, a tactic reminiscent of the rigging seen during the IREV election process. Her prediction has now come to pass, exposing a sinister pattern of institutional bias.
This is not an isolated incident. Spotlight Abby also highlighted how WAEC deleted a video praising Peter Obi for his educational reforms in Anambra, while conveniently “forgetting” to delete their tweet a clear double standard.
The Nigerian government and its institutions are weaponizing education to suppress Biafrans, a people known for their academic excellence and resilience. By targeting the South-East in the UTME, they aim to limit access to higher education, thereby stunting the growth and development of an entire generation of Biafran youth.
The danger of this calculated act cannot be overstated. Education is the bedrock of progress, and denying Biafran children the opportunity to advance academically is a direct attack on their future. It perpetuates a cycle of poverty, underrepresentation, and disenfranchisement, ensuring that Biafrans remain marginalized in a country that claims to uphold unity. Moreover, this act of sabotage fuels the narrative of exclusion, further alienating the Igbo people and deepening the wounds of historical injustices like the Biafran War.
The appointment of individuals like the current JAMB Registrar, who reportedly studied Islamic Studies, to oversee one of Nigeria’s most critical academic institutions raises serious questions about competence and fairness. “When a government appoints ministers based on nepotism over competence, this is what you get.” The All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government has consistently shown a disregard for merit, and this is now manifesting in the deliberate targeting of Biafran students.
We call on the international community, human rights organizations, and all justice loving people to take note of this systematic oppression. The Biafran people will not be silenced.
We demand transparency from JAMB and the Nigerian government should release the full list of affected Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Lagos and the South-East, as challenged by X user “Charity.” We also demand an immediate investigation into these “glitches” and accountability for those responsible for this sabotage.
The world must recognize that the Nigerian government’s actions are not mere administrative failures but a deliberate strategy to suppress the Biafran spirit. We will continue to fight for our right to education, equality, and self-determination.
The Biafran people deserve better our children deserve a future free from oppression.
