Tension Heightens in Abuja as Multinationals and Embassies plan relocating to Lagos over worsening insecurity in the nation’s capital A northerner, Hidima, has alleged that several multinationals and embassies are contemplating moving from Abuja to Lagos due to escalating incidents of kidnappings and growing insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory. Hidima, a Doctor of Philosophy, shared this information on his verified X account, as sighted by News Week Nigeria.

This comes amid a noticeable trend, with the Central Bank of Nigeria announcing its intention to transfer some of its departments from Abuja to Lagos State. The decision, as stated by a CBN official speaking anonymously to PUNCH, aims to decongest the apex bank’s head office. Advertisements Despite resistance from some staff members who claim tribal motivations, the source insists that the move is primarily for safety reasons and to enhance productivity.

News Week Nigeria had earlier reported that the federal government has relocated the headquarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria to Lagos. This was revealed in a memo signed by the Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku. The memo read:

”The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development has directed that the Headquarters of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) should be relocated from Abuja to Lagos. ”Consequent upon the above, you are requested to provide the implication of the relocation to the management.” The memo was dated 15th of January, 2024.”
