No fewer than 15 people were killed and more wounded when Fulani terrorists invaded communities in Zamfara and Sokoto States on Monday evening, residents have said. The attacked communities were Ruwan Bore in Zamfara and Gatawa, Dangari and Kurawa in Sokoto State. In Sokoto, a resident Nura Mamman, said over the phone that the attackers invaded Dangari about 2pm.

“I was in my house when I heard screams of women and children. By then, the bandits were trying to enter the community but a team of soldiers and policemen with vigilante members was putting them off. They came in two or more groups. The security agents could not contain them because of their weapons,” Mamman, a graduate of Sokoto State University, said.

He said when the attackers entered the community but most of the residents had run out to other villages. Four residents were killed while over 10 others had various degrees of injuries, he said. From Dangari, the terrorists went to Gatawa and Kurawa communities all in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of the state.

Basharu Guyawa, a resident of Isa Local Government Area tsaid 11 people from the three communities were confirmed dead, with several others injured. Four persons were reportedly killed in Zamfara, it was learnt. Three brothers abducted in the Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State have been killed by their abductors. Police spokesman Abdullahi Usman said the incident took place on Sunday at Garin Dogo community of Lau LGA.

The kidnappers had demanded N100m to release the victims but the father of the hostages, Alhaji Musa, a cattle dealer, negotiated the ransom to N60m, which they agreed. The money was delivered to the kidnappers, who still killed the three brothers including the ransom bearer, it was said. In Niger state the story is the same as reported by Aisha Wakaso

Terrorists known as Bandits operating in Niger State have killed the Village Head of Mulo village in Mashegu Local Government Area, Mallam Usman Garba, after he was abducted. This was made known during a press briefing in Minna on Friday by the Niger state Commissioner of Internal Security, Emmanuel Umar. He stated that the bandits(terrorists) invaded the Mulo community on Thursday abducting the village head and four others.

The PUNCH gathered that Garba was killed a few kilometers after he was abducted and his corpse was abandoned while the bandits left with the three others. The commissioner said although the insecurity situation across the state has subsided, there are still some threats and pockets of attacks in some communities, especially in Mashegu, Mariga, and Kontagora Local Government Areas.

“There is improvement in the security situation in the state. There has been a reduction in attacks but we are aware that the threat is still there and still exists. Of recent, we have seen attacks in the fringes of Mashegu, Mariga, and Kontagora,” he said. He added that security agencies in the state have been directed to come out in full force to flush out the terrorists and completely eradicate insecurity in these local government areas.
