The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Sunday said it never ordered its members and the Eastern Security Network, ESN, to disrupt the 2023 general elections in Nigeria. IPOB made the remark while accusing the Federal Government of heavily lobbying international organizations against its members. IPOB accused the Nigerian Government of lobbying US institutes and making false statements against its members. Emma Powerful, the spokesman of IPOB, made the remark while faulting Intel by two US agencies.
Powerful said the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and International Republican Institute (IRI) should have known that the Nigerian Government was behind the insecurity challenges in the Southeast. A statement by Powerful reads: “We, the global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi KANU wish to advise the two American institutes who were sponsored to make fallacious, and false statements against IPOB towards Nigeria’s compromised 2023 election to be circumspect in their reportage.
“If American secret agencies are sincere with their Intel, the two US-based Institutes, National Democratic Institute (NDI) and International Republican Institute (IRI) should have known that [the] Nigerian government and her security apparatus are the ones sponsoring criminals and bandits to cause confusion and havoc in the South East Region and turn around to blame it on IPOB. “It is unfortunate that these two organisations are making caricatures of themselves in their effort to help [the] Nigerian government blackmail IPOB.” Powerful stressed IPOB’s neutrality towards the 2023 general elections in Nigeria.
IPOB, he said, “still remains neutral towards Nigeria’s 2023 general elections because we know what we are looking for. IPOB has never issued any order to disrupt elections in Nigeria in 2023. According to him: “Those people using ESN and IPOB’s name to issue statements are not IPOB; they’re sponsored by Nigerian politicians, Nigerian government, and her security agents to blackmail IPOB. We challenge the United States-based institutes to provide evidence where IPOB has made an official statement or ordered disruption of 2023 elections in Nigeria.”

Those people using ESN and IPOB's name to issue statements are not IPOB. They're sponsored by Nigerian politicians, Nigeria Government, and her Security Agents to blackmail IPOB. We challenge the United States based Institutes to provide evidence where IPOB has made an official statement or ordered the disruption of 2023 elections in Nigeria. These two Institutes should carry out independent investigations and be properly informed about IPOB and it's activities both at home and abroad because we know that their Embassy in Abuja has already been compromised by Nigeria Government to give false information against IPOB and ESN activities in the Eastern Region.
American Embassy in Abuja are colluding with Nigeria Government and its Security Agents against IPOB for daring to agitate for a separate State or Nation where they can live in peace. Nigeria Government have levied secret wars against Biafrans especially IPOB members for peacefully demanding for Self Determination. Many members of IPOB have been illegally detained, extrajudicially executed, many detained indefinitely and many have been forcefully removed from their families incominicado.
Will these Institutes claim ignorance of these crimes and that of the genocide against Biafrans who only want freedom from this oppressive Country, Nigeria? Will they claim ignorance of the illegal abduction and extraordinary rendition of the leader of Indigenous People Of Biafra IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi KANU? Will these US based Institutes claim ignorance of the disobedience of the Court and UN Working Group orders on the release of Mazi Nnamdi KANU by the Nigeria Government?
American Embassy should stand with the creed of their Country by standing against injustice and human rights abuses. Their Foreign Missions and Diplomats should stand for justice and stop allowing themselves to be compromised by Nigeria State against Biafrans. We know that Nigeria Government as one of the worst oppressive Governments in the world is ready to pay any amount to anyone or group that will help them tarnish IPOB's reputation internationally. The US Embassy in Abuja must leave IPOB out of their game plan and speak the truth for once and always.
American Government and it's organizations should canverse for Biafra referendum date because that is the only way that can guarantee lasting peace in Nigeria. Most importantly, the United States of America should join us to call for the urgent release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who is held illegally against International and Local laws by the Nigeria Government. We have categorically stated in our previous press release that IPOB is not interested in Nigeria politics. IPOB remains neutral to an already rigged 2023 elections in Nigeria. If we decide otherwise we shall also make our position public as a free Self- Determination movement.
We want everyone and every group that are remotely interested in Nigeria to understand that, IPOB as a movement will not back down from Biafra freedom until a Referendum date is scheduled and a Referendum is conducted.
