AUGUST 07 , 2022 | EASTERN PILOT

Report By: Sunday Nwakanma |

Aloy Ejimakor, a counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Kanu, has said that the problem of Nigeria is not the separatist agitation nor Kanu but the alleged misguided military response to the agitation. In a statement made available to The PUNCH in Umuahia, Friday evening, Ejimakor said, “The problem is not the separatist agitation, IPOB or Nnamdi Kanu. The problem is the misguided militarist response to it, which, instead of containing it, is actually validating the agitation.”

Kanu, who is still in the Department of State Services’ detention in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, has recently been sided by the United Nations who urged the Federal Government and its agencies to unconditionally release him. Ejimakor said, “It is referendum that made Atiku Abubakar a Nigerian and which may also make him President. “It’s through referendum that Midwest region came into being in 1964. This is all within Nigeria, not counting the many nations that were created through referendum, such as Eritrea, Kosovo, South Sudan, etc.”

He, therefore, advised that the IPOB leader should be unconditionally released and compensated. Reacting, the family said it was not only agitation that was the problem of Nigeria but the present Federal administration. Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emma Kanu, said, “they have vehemently refused to understand the reasons behind the agitation. Not only the Biafra is agitating, but every part of the country is agitating.

“Until they begin to listen, they will not get it right. We want to be free.”
