Sequel to the resurgence of violence in some communities of Plateau State, the Conference of Autochthonous Ethic Nationalities Community Development Association, on Thursday, expressed its dissatisfaction over the way and manner the government has been handling crises in the country.

The group, comprising many ethnic nationalities in North Central and other Northern States of the country, said it is pained by the recurring attacks on innocent citizens.

Addressing journalists, Secretary-General of the group, Suleman Sukukum, said about 1.5 million people from Tiv land of Benue State are still languishing at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s) camp without being taken care of by government as Irigwe people too had over 400 people attacked.

According to him, the Irigwe’s case is more pathetic because of their closeness to the 3 Armoured Division of the Nigeria Army, adding that unfortunately 13 villages were ransacked by the suspected herdsmen.

He said that the most unfortunate thing was that the Fulani herdsmen who came from other places now occupied the land of those natives they displaced, adding that in the face of all this, “government is pretending that nothing is happening”.

The displaced persons, accusing him, especially the Tiv women are now subjected to sexual abuse thereby losing their dignity as women. He added that the terrorists hide in the thick forests and the fertile lands which belong to the natives.

“In Berom land, over 54 homes had been destroyed”, alleging that there was convenience aiding the invaders as they occupied the lands of those they displaced.

The group said that the government did not live up to its responsibility of protecting citizens, calling on the international community to come to their aid.

The group said that “as from today, we are going to protect ourselves and our property. We will fence our lands. Whoever trespasses will be prosecuted. We will not allow intruders to come in again. In fact, we don’t want to disclose how we will do that. We are going to plant protective plants. If cows eat them, they will die and the owners will know that their cows have trespassed.

“We know that the terrorists are armed to the teeth, but we will do everything possible to defend ourselves. Some tribes, unfortunately, have been marked to be eliminated completely from the land."
