APRIL 28, 2021 | EASTERN PILOT

Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria's vice president, has said that the money of the wealthy cannot save them at a time when the nation is struggling with the scourge of insecurity.

Osinbajo said there is even no place to hide for those who are considering leaving the country to escape the pending predicaments, Punch reports.

Osinbajo said elite politicians in the country have a duty to speak against disunity

The vice president made these remarks during a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains in Abuja on Tuesday, April 27.

Osinbajo, however, pointed out that no matter how bad things are currently, the country cannot afford another civil war, Daily Times also reported.

He stated:

“Everyone who thinks he has some monies stored up somewhere will eventually run out of money. Everyone who thinks he can go and hide somewhere, won`t even find a place to hide, in the end, everyone will suffer.

“Even if you don’t suffer, parents, children, young and old people, and relations will suffer. We cannot afford another civil war in this country, we can`t afford it."

He noted that the inability of the elite politicians to speak the truth against disunity in the country is responsible for the present failure, adding that silence can lead to more dangerous situations.

Meanwhile, the increasing and unthinkable attacks by bandits in Nigeria, especially in the north, had forced Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue to make some pronouncements about the state of the nation.

Governor Ortom suspects that the country is becoming a failed state, in his words, a banana republic.

The Benue governor wondered why the shoot-at-sight order of President Muhammadu Buhari on bandits carrying AK-47 should be contradicted by the minister of defence, Bashir Magashi.
