Report By: Murtala Abdullahi
The Nigerian military was engaged in a firefight with Boko Haram insurgents in Banki, a community bordering Cameroon. HumAngle News reports that the troops were able to repel the attack on Banki town, in Bama Local Government of Borno State. Banki, located less than three kilometres from the Cameroon border is an important centre for humanitarian operations.
In November, Amina Mohammed, the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General visited a camp hosting displaced persons in Banki and Nigerian returnees from Cameroon. Banki is within the area of influence of Boko Haram, the parent faction of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
In November 2019, Boko Haram attacked the Banki humanitarian hub, thus disrupting aid operations.
